Aftercare instructions may differ from person to person depending on the type of implant preformed and its placement.
These are the general aftercare instructions we recommend for effective treatment of a surface anchor / bar, These instructions should be followed carefully.
IMPORTANT!
You should not move, touch or handle your dermal / surface piercing while its healing!
This is a critical factor in healing your new implant.
* The implant should be kept as static as possible - Do not touch, play or try to twist it, try very hard not to sleep on it and beware of any needless movment, pull or trauma to the implant area (from hair, clothes etc.)

- The piercing area should be washed thoroughly with warm water until it is clean of any secretions or dirt / debries.
- Allow the area to air dry for a few minutes (if after the drying time there is still any remaining moisture in the piercing area, please dry the area further by gently dabbing it with dry gauze / disposable paper towel or using a hair dryer on a low setting and without any heat. (Do not use a hand / body / face towel).
- After drying, spray the piercing with sterile salt water solution / saline solution only (unless otherwise reccomended in the studio).
- Repeat the drying process after using the saline solution as needed.
- After about two weeks we recommended to periodically clean the jewelry with menthol and wax free dental floss (we recommend using plastic toothpicks that are part dental floss)
* A demonstration of this step can be done with one of the pircers at the studio if needed.
* The use of floss for cleaning should be done while rinsing with warm water.
Please come in within two weeks of the piercing for a checkup and further aftercare instructions as needed!
Different people and piercings heal in different ways, two weeks into healing is a good time to examine your piercings progress and give you more specific aftercare instructions if needed, to allow it to heal more effectively.
During healing you should avoid the following:
- AVOID TOUCHING your piercing as much as possible, unless it is is required for aftercare purposes, which should always be done with clean hands.
- AVOID USING alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, chlorhexidine or any other chemical product for aftercare, you should only use sterile salt water solution / sterile saline.
- AVOID using makeup products, perfume, shaving products and creams near the piercing area.
- AVOID sleeping or having any pressure applied to the jewelry during healing (for example: after getting a sternum surface anchor you should refrain from sleeping on your stomach)sleeping / pressure on the jewelry during healing can cause discomfort, pain, migration of the jewelry, inflammation etc.
- AVOID any activities that may hinder your piercings healing (for example: some types of physical activities may cause irritation or trauma to the piercing, going swimming or to the beach may result in an infection etc. contact us if you are uncertain about an activity).
- DO NOT wrap or bandage the piercing in any way (unless instructed otherwise).
Preparing a cold compress:
If you have been instructed by your piercer to apply cold compress to your piercing, please follow the following steps:
- Using clean hands, dip a piece of gauze (nonwoven, to prevent leaving any fibers on the piercing) in cold water and place it gently on the piercing site to help cool it down (cold water only, not ice).
– Do not apply pressure or push the gauze pad against the piercing, place it on only. No direct contact of the pad with the actual piercing is needed, the idea is to cool off the surrounding area.
- Repeat several times a day as needed to help reduce swelling.
After completeing a compress discard of the used pad, do not use a second time.
- If after applying a cold compress there is still any remaining moisture in the piercing area, please dry the area further by gently dabbing it with dry gauze / disposable paper towel or using a hair dryer on a low setting and without any heat. Do not use a hand / body / face towel.
Please remember:
- The average time for full healing of any piercing may be up to a year! Therefore, returning for a checkup within two weeks of the day the piercing was performed in order to assess its situation may be critical to its healing.
